I Need A Little Help

summer job 5

These are some of the hardest words to say for me as well as many people I know.  I don’t always know that I need a little help, I know I am very bad at asking for it and right now I am not sure what that help would look like.

Many of us here like to  think of ourselves as writers, more of us can’t even put our names in that sentence, big sigh, well here goes.  I am trying to write a murder mystery style book and can’t figure out how I want to have someone die.  I want  my main character to be around when they find the body to help solve the murder as an amateur sleuth, but not to be too closely involved.  My setting is current time in a big city.  Should be easy, right.

I guess this is a bigger ask than I originally thought, but if anyone wants to share a crazy idea, I would appreciate it.  I do think I will go back to the board game and see who committed the crime in the library with a candlestick.

  1. Maybe someone slips a big dose of warfarin in the victim’s food? Warfarin is handy because it is both a prescription blood thinner and a readily-available rat poison ☠️

  2. There are many ways to kill people. They could be stabbed, strangled, drowned, eaten by say like rats, fall off a ledge or be pushed down stairs. They could be run over, poisoned, blown up. They could be fed something they are allergic to and die from a severe reaction. They could be smothered, they could die like the girl in the James Bond movie “Goldfinger”, who was painted with gold paint. A person could be shot by accident or on purpose. In one of the early Alfred Hitchcock short stories, a person is beaten to death with a leg of lamb and then the leg of lamb was eaten, thus disposing of the murder weapon. A person can even be killed by neglecting them, not feeding them, not keeping them warm enough, or letting them get too warm, not giving them medication they need, etc. It just goes on and on. People are actually very, very fragile, so it doesn’t really take much to kill a person off. And what I’ve listed so far are some of the less gruesome ways to die, read the news on-line, there are many, many, much more horrible ways that people die or are killed, directly or indirectly. A person could be accidentally or purposely exposed to a deadly disease. It’s almost endless. Pick a way and play with it to see how you like it, if it doesn’t work, try another. I hope this helps you some. Have a SUPER CREATIVE DAY!!!!!

    1. Thanks so much. You have done a great service to me, I was having a bit of a pity party with no clever way to kill someone and all I needed to do was keep writing. Don’t overthink, just do it. I’m off to write and I am grateful for the gentle nudge!
